The minute our we jumped off our ferry we knew right away we weren’t in Athens anymore. Fresh air and crowds of tourist overwhelmed us. We grabbed a taxi and headed to the seaside city center and found our hotel. The room was small but had 2 balconies. One was overlooking the water and the other over the main road in town. Mykonos has 2 main draws. It’s nightlife, party town rep and cruise ship day excursions. We were able to people watch by day and by night. The first night we strolled through the maze of white alleys until we found a place to sit back and observe the madness of the cruise ship rush with a drink in one hand and a hookah in the other. Then we splurged on a delicious yet over priced dinner. Mykonos is by far the most expensive place we have ever visited and our bank account is grateful we only booked 2 nights. Buses only cover the south side of the island delivering cruise passengers to beaches close enough to get them back before the ship leaves so the next morning we rented a quad and took off to find the locals part if the island. We stopped at 3 different beaches each with its own personality and got way too much sun before heading back to sample some local sausages. We weren’t impress with the beaches or the island. To me the island is over rated and way too expensive. If your cruise ship stops here it would definitely be a good excursion or even a nice day trip from Athens but not a destination in itself. For us it was a fun beach day. Finally being surrounded by water was also a plus for us. Next and last stop in Greece…… Santorini !
