We left Aqaba at 8am feeling great. Our taxi driver from the airport picked us up and drove us to Wadi Rum for $25 and we arrived 4 hours before check in time so we quickly hired a Bedouin guide to give us a 3 hour tour of the desert attractions. $50. He took us to see the filming locations for Star Wars, Rogue One, Martian and Lawrence of Arabia as well as Lawrence’s Cave. Then we saw the Mushroom Rock and 2 arch bridges we could climb. Our final stop was to see some 1200 year old inscriptions on the side of a giant cliff. The pictures were of camels and horses and he explained that they were used by caravans as street signs to guide them. At each stop the guide took our camera and took pictures for us recreating movie scenes. He also showed us where to scream in certain canyons to get the best echos. Lots of fun. We ended up leaving him a $20 tip. Once back at the camp we checked in to our Luxury bubble dome. The options were a shared tent ($10) or a private tent ($22) or a private luxury dome ($300). We, uncharacteristically, choose to splurge for a night and took the dome. It consisted of 3 connected domes, a star viewing living room, bedroom and bathroom with a hammock and a hot tub on the patio. At 6pm the staff came around and removed the cover from our domes leaving us with an amazing view of the star lit sky from our bed. After stargazing from the hot tub we enjoyed a late Bedouin dinner and spent the rest of the night in bed enjoying the view. Well worth the splurge! P.s. breakfast and dinner were included. Believe it or not, tomorrow’s plans may top this for unique experiences. Stay tuned! Jordan has far exceeded my expectations and they were high to start out. Admission to Wadi Rum was free with our Jordan Pass. It has already more than paid for itself.
