Sad to be leaving Litochoro, we made the 3 hour drive to Meteora. This is one of Greeces most iconic places and said to be home to the oldest human construction on earth. The Unesco World Heritage site is made up of dozens of rock spires with Eastern Orthodox monasteries perched on top. There are over 20 in total with 6 still being in use. We choose to visit the biggest and most popular and were able to stop and see 2 others on the way up. We spent around 2 hours inside the main monastery and were blown away. The monastery itself was in amazing condition. It had many chambers that were as they were hundreds of years ago and other sections had been turned into museums with everything from old clothing and paintings to writings of monks and priests. I was incredibly impressed by the perfect condition of the monastery. The chambers inside were every bit as spectacular as the Vatican. It was well worth a visit.

By 3pm we were finished exploring so we got in the car and made the 2 hour ride to Delphi and found a place to sleep. The next morning we headed straight to the Delphi archaeological site and museum. The ruins were nowhere near as impressive as Epheseus in Turkey but still very interesting. After 2 hours wandering through the ruins we went inside the museum to soak in some AC and admire all the artifacts that had been found at the site. We really enjoyed the way the museum was set up and recommend a visit even if its only a day trip from Athens. By early afternoon we were finished exploring and starting to feel burnt out. We were going to drive 3 hours to Olympia to see the site of the first Olympics and then spend a day relaxing there but we heard from several people that the 6 hour drive just wasn’t worth it even to a big Olympics fan. We were told all the good Olympic stuff can now be found in Athens. We figured we would add those 2 nights on to the 5 we already planned in Athens and just relax and get some work done there.
