Our last day in Seoul and it was time to do our normal routine of running around the city finding all the attractions we had missed. On our first day in Seoul we explored North of the river and as I mentioned in that blog I wasn’t loving Seouls vibe. I didn’t dislike it but I wasn’t seeing what everyone loves about the city. Today we headed across the river and started our day at the DDP. The Dongdaemun Design Plaza (AKA- Dream Design Play) is a giant structure famous for its spaceship looking design that houses ever changing exhibits. A must for architects, artists and designers. While we were there they had an exhibit featuring futuristic building designs. There is also a mall inside. A fun stop. Our next stop was at a giant mall that has a library inside where people come to read and socialize as well as take pictures in front of the towering walls of books. The mall also has a statue out front depicting the wrists from the song Gangnum Style. The song is Koreas most famous international hit. There is a button in front of the statue that plays the song every time it’s pressed so the song basically plays nonstop with people reenacting the famous dance in front of the statue. Next we headed over to the Lotte World Tower located on a lake next to the Olympic Park. The tower has 123 floors and spectacular views of the city. However somehow, between the time we paid our $50 to enter and got on the elevator and when we reached the Seoul Sky Observatory at the top, a nasty storm rolled in so our views lasted about 5 seconds. The rain also ruined our walk through Olympic Park. With our outdoor plans ruined we opted to spend the night eating and sharing a hookah. We both agreed that the South side of the city was cleaner more modern and had a younger vibe. The north side had more history and culture. Todays adventure gave us more of what we expected from Seoul. Now we see why people really like this city. The food in Korea hasn’t been my favorite but Korean BBQ and Korean Fried Chicken are both worth the trip here for.
