So it begins…Days of hiking. We hired a guide to take us into the Sacred Valley and set out to see as much as we could. We began the day at a place that makes Alpaca textiles from scratch and got a history lesson in how they gathered, spun and colored the fur. It was a quick stop and we ended up leaving with an Alpaca sweater. From there we made our way to some ruins and learned about the Spanish Inquisition. The ruins weren’t too impressive but the views of the valley were spectacular. A short ride later and we came to a site with spiral levels that the Incas used for farming. After walking around for a bit we headed to some salt pools that are still in use. They reminded us of a less picturesque version of the ones we saw in Turkey. After lunch we drove through the valley to a Sun Temple. Here we got to hike up the ruins to the summit where we saw the giant rock alter and some more amazing views. The last stop for the day was another sacred site with more views of farming terraces. Overall the Sacred Valley was full of history and preserved Inca ruins that definetley deserve a visit.
