There’s so much to see and do in Cairo. Last night we took a 3 hour tour of the Nile on a dinner cruise with traditional Egyptian dancing. The food was ok but the highlight of the night was the Siffi dancing. We were so into the show that we hardly got to see the river. As the show ended we both got called up on stage and joined in the fun. Turned out to be a great time. As we left the boat we both commented on how our cheeks were sore from smiling and laughing so much. Loved it. The men here all call Alyssa Shakira.
We woke up to another traditional breakfast on our balcony. I’m not a big fan of beans for breakfast but when in Rome. Right after breakfast we were off to take on that bucket list again. Today we had a private driver and an Egyptologist as our personal guide for the day. Our first stop of the day was at the Pyramids. Before entering the complex we met with the owner of a local shop where Alyssa sampled and bought some essential oils while we shared a hooka full of shisha with the guys in the shop. From there we decided to get 1 camel and 1 horse to explore the 12km complex. We took turns riding each and spent almost four hours in the Sahara sun with a local expert. I could go on with a history lesson but that would take forever. We started out by going to a mountain top to get a panoramic view of all 9 pyramids where our guide put us through a photo session. Next we went up to the 2 main pyramids and even went in one of them. The feeling of being there touching them was surreal. And to be there alone with the place to ourselves was amazing. From there we went and explored several tombs before ending the tour at the Sphinx. The prices are very reasonable if you know where to book so we ended up getting the deluxe tour at a great price. We will be posting costs of things in a later blog or video. Sometimes things can get so built up in your mind that they don’t live up to the hype but the Pyramids did not let us down at all. The hawkers can be a bit much until you learn the way things work here but that’s a whole other blog. Next our driver dropped us and our guide off at the Egyptian Museum where we spent around 3 hours getting a history lesson. The museum was impressive even though a lot of the artifacts were already taken over to the new museum being opened in July. I asked the first guide we had about how much work the Aliens did on the pyramids and he laughed so hard. I tried the joke again later and again the person almost fell over laughing. They truly think that outsiders thinking aliens built the pyramids is hilarious. From the museum we walked back to our hotel with the guide and stopped off for fresh squeezed sugar cane juice. It was refreshing and Alyssa loved it. Too sweet for me but watching it get squeezed was fun. We have lots more to do in Cairo and will return in a few weeks but for now we are heading over to Alexandria for a day of exploring the ancient seaside city after some much needed rest tonight. We are going to start posting videos on our youtube channel this week so please subscribe so you don’t miss anything. Subscribing would really help us get some traction on the channel and we are almost to our first milestone of 100 subscribers. When we hit that milestone we will choose one subscriber to win an Egyptian painting.
