The 5 star time out was just what we needed. We missed two things we wanted to see but we can do them when we return the car in 2 weeks. With our last day in town we planned our first walking food tour. Our guide was amazing and really made the day fun and interesting.  It was a private tour so we moved at our pace and had a blast.

The tour included 7 stops. The first was a traditional breakfast at a family owned Cafe. Lots of cheese but not bad. Second stop was to try Pida. We had tried it already but here they took us into the kitchen and let us make our own. We made a mess along with some good laughs. They also gave us a Turkish dumpling dish. They called them raviolis but I won’t do that. The actual dumplings were ok but they smothered them in a yogurt sauce that I hated. Third stop was for Turkish coffee. I’m not into coffee and Alyssa said it was a bit strong. After finishing our cup they read our fortune in the grounds in the bottom of the cup. Next we stopped at a Doner shop. This is one of my favorite Turkish dishes and it was served with some seriously hot peppers! Loved it. Next we had a digestion break in a wine bar where we had a glass of a strong local cherry wine. Next we got to try Lahmacun, the pizza-like dish we have been waiting for. It was better than the Pida. Our final stop was for a rare dish you can only get at one place. It was a spicy beef bone soup.

Both of us ranked this as the best thing we tried on the tour and maybe Turkey so far. The tour company does food tours in cities all around the world so I’m sure we will be joining them again. I’ll be posting more on the food and the tour company on our website for anyone interested.
