There is so much to do in this area and we were really enjoying the vibe so we decided to stay a few extra nights. The only problem was there was an international music festival in town so we were having a hard time finding a room. Our hotel moved things around and got us 1 extra night, then we got lucky and found the last room at a beautiful hotel with an amazing view of the volcano from our balcony. After making the room change we were off for another huge day. We began the morning by doing a kayak tour down a river in the rainforest. Everyone lese on the tour went in one big raft but we opted for our own kayak. This way we were able to do our pace without dealing with the kids on the raft. We saw sloths, monkeys, bats, spiders, a baby crocodile and then a giant croc. We ended the tour with a demonstration of making sugar cane as well as a snack of plantains, cheese, tortillas and moonshine. Afterwards we enjoyed a quick lunch then headed to Arenal Volcano National Park to do a hike. The hike was called Arenal 1968 after the last time the volcano erupted. There are two trails you can take so we choose the longer one and set out. We got to see all the expected wildlife as we hike around the volcano through sections of lava rocks then around a lake. The hike took us around 2.5 hours and didn’t disappoint. We even found a cool reggae bar where we ate lunch on the lake. Another amazing day in La Fortuna. To top it off as we walked home to our hotel after dark we came across a marching band that was practicing for an international competition. They followed us as we walked home. Pretty cool.
